I added a last minute thing to the calendar on the meet-up site... Join us if you want at the vernal pools at Santa Rosa plateau for an evening hike tomorrow at 5:30.

Here's another trail close to home... I haven't been on it yet, but my sister took her family (a 10 and 12 year old) and they loved it!  It's north of the Santa Rosa Plateau.

Truth be told, there were a couple of no swimming signs at the trail head... but when we got there there were several people in the water already, so we said 'why not? '... The water was a really nice temp....

The 9 yo's would love the actual trail - Lot of scrambling... The little bit of the trail we took, I did not see any water worth swimming in, but then again we didn't go very far into it...

And I do no believe you need an adventure pass.

The water we found is not along the colored trail on this map, it is across the street.

Yes, there is plenty of water now: about ankle-knee level in parts and much deeper in other parts...

My kids are 5, 3 and my husband carried our 1 year old on his back... The trail on the east side was too much for my little ones... But it would have been a beautiful hike if it were only older kids and adults.

Great! Thanks Michelle! I can't wait to hike there! We'll probably try the horse trail since mine are so little. I imagine the swimming is seasonal. It is there now though?

If you end up going on this hike sometime, be warned erosion has changed the trail tremendously and it is a pretty gnarly hike for the little ones... Rock scrambling will be involved... We ended up going across the street along a horse trail and came to a nice swimming area no more than a 1/4 mile down... ENJOY!

So, my family is going to be hiking Santa Margarita River Trail in the De Luz area of Fallbrook today... It's not so far from Temecula... Maybe you can try it sometime.....

Do you want to start a local nature club?

Inland Empire Kids Outdoors spans a huge geographic area and it is often difficult for families to drive long distances to attend events.  If you would like to start your own local nature club, feel free to use the Groups feature (located on our main page) as a starting place.  Use the Groups as a way to connect with local parents and get organized.  If you would like to see a custom group, please e-mail us!

About the Children and Nature Movement

Inland Empire Kids Outdoors was created after a local parent read Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv.
